Alaska Birth Collective Baby Fair
Along with being a mom, and wife, and doula and childbirth educator, I’m also the President of the Alaska Birth Collective.
What is the Alaska Birth Collective?
Well, I’m glad you asked.
Alaska Birth Collective is a non-profit community based resource for mamas and families during pregnancy, birth, and postpartum. We host free community events, educational opportunities for providers and advocate for evidence based care.
We offer support, education, information, and advocacy for families during the childbearing years. We host community events, educational workshops, and support meetings for new and expecting parents. We offer training and professional development opportunities for care providers in our area.
We believe birth is a normal, healthy process, not an illness or disease. Empowering births can take place in hospitals, birth centers, and homes. Maternity care should be evidence-based and woman-centered. We believe women should be leaders in their care, receiving evidence based and accurate information regarding options for pregnancy, birth, postpartum and breastfeeding. Women have a right to make health care decisions for themselves and their babies. That right includes Informed Consent as well as Informed Refusal.
We have grown to over 60 members, and we are just over a year old. Follow Alaska Birth Collective on Facebook for all the upcoming events and opportunities. Are you also a mother-friendly care provider in my area? You should become a member!
We are truly excited to be hosting our first Baby Fair March 24th at the University Mall in Anchorage. You can find all the details here. There will be vendors, live speakers and demonstrations, and did I mention giveaways?
I will be there, doing double duty with my doula sisters, Jamie and Shanna, running the fair, the Alaska Birth Collective table and my own table for Eagle River Birth and Baby. Please come by and say hello. I’d love to chat with you about all things birth and baby!
Hope to see you there!
